31 Days of Life in a Large Family – Day 17

My boys are sick. It started with Elijah and now Isaiah has it, too. That means breathing treatments every 4 hours and sleepless nights.

Both boys were born with asthma. It was really bad when they were babies. They both had to have breathing treatments morning, noon, and night. Elijah was very noisy and sounded horrible. Isaiah was very quiet and we didn’t even think he had a problem until the doctor listened to his lungs and said his wheeze was actually worse than Elijah’s.

Isaiah HATED the breathing treatments! He would scream and cry and try to pull the mask off his face. Elijah was the total opposite. It was like he knew it would make him feel better and as soon as his treatment started he would fall asleep.

Now, they both just sit there like nothing. Everytime they have to get a treatment at the doctor’s office or hospital the nurses are always impressed with how well they handle it. And there have been many trips to the hospital because of it. Elijah has been hospitalized 3 times. Once with bronchiolitis and twice with pneumonia. Because of his asthma, when he gets sick he has a hard time coughing up all the phlegm in his lungs. Luckily, Isaiah has not had to be hospitalized.

Now, we only have to use their inhaler and do the treatments when they are sick. If we start them early enough then we usually can stay out of the ER. Lord willing, maybe, one day they won’t need them anymore. But for now, this is our days while they are sick, and I thank God that it’s not as bad as it was.

31 Days of Life in a Large Family – Day 16

This is Grace, she is almost 10, and she is my oldest. She is just like her daddy, in looks and personality.

She has BIG hopes and dreams for her future!

She wants to have 10 children(some biological and some adopted) 10 horses, and 10 dogs(5 big and 5 small). She isn’t going to own a car because she wants to ride her horses everywhere she needs to go.

Her dream is to open her own makeover business. People would come in to get their nails, hair, and makeup done and then she would pick out an outfit for them while they were eating confections from her kitchen. 😀

31 Days of Life in a Large Family – Day 15

This is Mercy, she is almost 5, and she wants to be a princess when she grows up. All my girls have loved playing dress up, but Mercy has, by far, loved it the most! Some days, when I tell her to go get dressed, she asks if she can just wear her ballerina outfit for the day. She would even leave the house in it if I would let her! Who knows, maybe she will grow up to be a princess. 😉

31 Days of Life in a Large Family – Day 14

Today was the day we switched from summer clothes to winter clothes. I think it is early this year than it has been in awhile. We usually don’t get our first cold night until October 31st. Our days have been getting pretty chilly the last week or so. At least my kids and I think so.

I have to do the clothes switch while Michael is at work, otherwise it makes him nervous. ;\ It’s understandable though, because this is what it looks like while it is happening.

This year I was actually a little more organized about it then years past. Just imagine that much clothes x5 all over. I decided to do one child at a time instead of all at once. It went a lot faster this time.

I started with Grace and had her bring me all of her clothes and gave her all the winter clothes I had that would fit her. Then I had Hope bring me all of her clothes and she got to trade all that she had for the same amount of winter clothes (so, like, she gave me a summer shirt I gave her a winter one and she gave me a pair of shorts and I gave her a pair of pants.) Since she is the 2nd child she has twice as many clothes as Grace does to choose from.

And then there is Mercy who is the 3rd child and has hand-me-downs from 2 sisters and our close friend’s daughter and any clothes that people buy her new. Let’s just say that she has A LOT of clothes to choose from. 😊

She loves it!

I gather up all her summer clothes and make a pile of winter clothes for her to try on. And that’s what she does for about a half hour. The whole time enjoying herself and commenting on how pretty these pants are and that shirt is.

Meanwhile, Grace keeps coming in the room complaining about something that Hope got this year that was Grace’s last year and it might still fit her because she just got it last year and that means it has to still fit her! (Is that one sentence? Seems kinda long. Oh well. 😉) And I have to remind her one more time that is how clothes work. They start with Grace, then to Hope, and then to Mercy. She says, “oh ya”, and off she goes. I think she gets a little jealous that the other girls have more to choose from.

This is what it looks like when we are all done. Everything nice and neatly put back in the closet.

31 Days of Life in a Large Family – Day 13

Having a large family means you get to laugh a lot! 😄

Here is just a glimpse into the silliness.

31 Days of Life in a Large Family – Day 12

I bet you were expecting to see another one of my children featured today 😏…..

But, I wasn’t with them today for very long so, I didn’t get any good pictures of them to share with you.

Michael and I went to an equipping seminar for children’s ministry workers. We got to pick 4 workshops to go to and learn about different things.

We picked (#1)Fundraising, (#2)Outreach Ideas, (#3)How to get their Attention, and (#4)Children’s church, Chaos or Christ. We got a bunch of great ideas and learned some new stuff.

Our kids were being watched, by the girls who work at our church nursery, at our church. They said they had a lot of fun. 😊 I’m glad, because they were there almost all day.

Then when we got home and this is what we worked on.

See how dusty it is!

We are in the middle of a small kitchen remodel. We tore up the tile (because it was coming up), tore down a wall that was dividing the kitchen from the dining room (to make more room), and we got rid of a gigantic island (that was just to big for us). We got a new pantry, smaller island, and we are going to (hopefully) paint the concrete. I say we, but really I should be saying Michael will be painting the concrete. I picked out the design and color though. 😁

I can’t wait until it is done and all the dust is gone! I can’t wait to see how the floor will turn out, too! I will post pictures when we are finished.

Here is a picture from before we tore the wall down.

That’s the island in the picture, also.

31 Days of Life in a Large Family – Day 11

This is Hope, she is 7, and she LOVES to color. If you were to come over to our house she would most likely be coloring a picture. She would probably even give it to you before you left.
